18.2 Million Reasons Brands Should Use Twitter

25 June 2009 No Comment

If your still on the fence about whether your brand should be on Twitter – it may be time to reconsider your social-marketing plan.   According to Nielson, Twitter reached 18.2 Million unique visitors last month.  That’s up an astounding 1,448% from last year.  Also up was the average time spent on the site – 175% more than the same time last year.

If these numbers don’t sway you, consider this – most users aren’t even on the website.  Instead a large majority of users utilize third party applications such as Tweetdeck and Twitzap to follow, track and post their tweets.  And many more are utilizing their hand-held devices to post and read tweets, meaning that the numbers Nielson posted are likely to be lower than the actual eyeballs that land on the site.

There’s a lot of buzz around Twitters fast growth, and even faster expansion around the social media space – it makes sense that brands will want to rally around it and get in on the ground floor.  Even if it’s the CEO tweeting about a company picnic or the marketing team touting a secret pre-release of a new product launch, making your presence known on the web is clearly worth the effort.  Afterall – up until now at least – Twitter is free, and hasn’t shown signs of making any moves to charge for it’s service.

Free access to 18.2 million visitors a month?  You’d be crazy not to.
